Project Description

Kaiser Ontario Medical Center, located in Ontario, CA, is a 224-bed hospital that provides health services to the West end of San Bernardino County. This design-build project was one of three awarded to Athena Engineering, Inc. by Kaiser Permanente at Ontario Medical Center during the last half of 2016. This project specifically involved design and construction at the 160,000 square-foot complex of medical offices on the Ontario Medical Center Campus.

The $1.5 million scope included full 3D BIM pre-construction coordination of all involved trades. As the prime contractor, Athena Engineering served as the lead of the coordination team for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural steel, fire sprinkler, plumbing, and medical gas contractors. Throughout the pre-construction process, Athena Engineering performed constructibility analysis and budget validation in order to help build the MEP basis of design.

The project involved the construction of a 37,795 square foot in-fill of shelled space in the Ontario Medical Center Medical Office Building (MOB) D, 3,431 square feet remodel in MOB A and 3,446 square foot remodel of existing space in MOB D. The project added 61 provider offices and 60 exams rooms on campus. The new rooms and offices were built to suit new service enhancements including the expansion of cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, head and neck, infectious disease, nephrology, OB/GYN, occupational health, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, physical medicine, pulmonology, rheumatology, urology, plastic surgery, and urgent care.

In addition to self-performing the Mechanical HVAC, Athena Engineering was responsible for the overall schedule and turning over the turn-key project.
