Project Description

Los Angeles County Olive View – UCLA Medical Center is a 377-bed county hospital located in the north end of the San Fernando Valley that serves low income and indigent patients, as well as the surrounding community. Athena Engineering, Inc. was hired by Western Allied Mechanical to install the building automation system in the emergency services expansion and acute care unit addition to the main hospital. The Building Automation team installed a variable actuated valve system with zone reheat control.

The project also included isolation room pressurization control using variable frequency control on the air handling units and stacked exhaust fans. This specialized system maintains a negative pressurization environment in order to contain infectious diseases in the isolation room.

Finally, chilled and hot water service tie-ins were from the existing central plant. Inline pumps were added with variable frequency control to maintain pressure and flow for the air handling units and reheats.
