Project Description

Kaiser Ontario Medical Center, located in Ontario, CA, is a 224-bed hospital that provides health services to the West end of San Bernardino County. This design-build project was one of three awarded to Athena Engineering, Inc. by Kaiser Permanente at Ontario Medical Center during the last half of 2016. The Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) building at Kaiser Permanente Ontario Medical Center (KPOMC) is a single story building. This building is a fully built-out space which includes Operating Rooms (ORs), recovery areas, and support spaces.

The $1.2 million scope included full 3D BIM pre-construction coordination of all involved trades, installation of new HVAC on the first floor of the center, and the build-out of two new operating rooms. One of the new operating rooms was built in the former pre-operating/recovery area of the building, totaling approximately 2,850 SF of new operating room space. As the prime contractor, Athena Engineering served as the lead of the coordination team for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural steel, fire sprinkler, plumbing, and medical gas contractors. Throughout the pre-construction process, Athena Engineering performed constructibility analysis and budget validation. The operating room ceiling, designed by Guardian Ceiling Systems, is a fully integrated ceiling system consisting of laminar diffusers, HEPA filters, LED light fixtures and structural boom supports. In addition to self-performing the Mechanical HVAC, Athena Engineering was responsible for the overall schedule and turning over the turn-key project.
