Project Description

Athena Engineering, Inc. completed an addition of a new 294-cell housing building (173,000 square feet) with adjacent support functions for transport holding, administrative offices and other workspaces. A separate central plant building containing mechanical equipment to serve the housing building was also included.

Our team was responsible for creating information modeling using leading-edge software. Completing all our CADD drawings in-house allowed our team to better coordinate installation. We were able to account for locations with limited space and access for installation, creating a more efficient workflow.

This project had several unique considerations. The facility requires both internal and external concealment of equipment, air diffuser and ducting to protect the system from view and physical contact by building. In addition, the entire system is subject to weather conditions and outdoor ambient temperature.

The HVAC scope of work at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility included the installation of new equipment, including McQuay rooftop air handlers, chillers, ducting, new mechanical piping and valves, and mechanical insulation.
