Project Description
The Los Angeles Internal Services Department (ISD) provides a range of support services to all county departments in the areas of purchasing, contracting, facilities, information technology and other support services such as energy and environmental programs. ISD is the primary source of centralized services to maintain and support over 200 Los Angeles County facilities and maintain over 13 million square feet of county property, keeping them safe and productive for both county staff and the public.
Athena Engineering was awarded this coil replacement project in the fully occupied and operational ISD headquarters over two action-packed weekends, running double-shifts. The scope included the removal and replacement of 6 total hot and chilled water coils inside the main air handler unit serving this building. Athena Engineering installed new piping to connect the new coils, new main chilled and hot water valves, and also provided and installed new condensate pans. Since the building had to be operational during the week, this scope was safely performed over the course of 3 weekends, and the unit re-started at the end of the weekend so the HVAC was operational prior to staff arriving each Monday morning. The entire HVAC dry-side scope was self-performed by Athena Engineering and in-house staff.
