Kaiser Permanente contracted Athena directly to replace the mechanical plant at its Inglewood Medical Office Building — a busy facility running an after-hours clinic, family and internal medicine, pediatrics, a lab, pharmacy, physical therapy, and radiology and diagnostic imaging under one roof.
Athena was awarded the design-build: plans and engineering for all of it, mechanical, structural, controls, and electrical. Then we did the work we’d drawn. We demolished the existing system and installed new air handlers, a chiller, a boiler, piping, and controls.
The catch was that the building never closed. Patients kept coming, imaging kept running, the pharmacy kept filling. So we sequenced the replacement around them, working days, nights, and weekends, swapping a live building’s lungs without interrupting a clinic.
Kaiser keeps handing Athena the work that can’t afford a misstep, like the Ambulatory Surgery Center build-out at its Ontario Medical Center.
