Trade Partners
Want to work with us?
Our subs are awesome — and we're always looking for more. Prequalification is how we protect our clients, protect the trades already running work with us, and bring more good subs into the fold. Here's how to get started.
Who We Work With
The trades we always need more of.
We run a lot of different project types — healthcare, civic, education, manufacturing — which means we need a deep bench across the trades. The list below is the work we're most often looking to award. Don't see your trade? Send the prequal anyway. New scopes come up.
- Electrical (Low Voltage & Regular)
- Concrete Demolition & Installation
- Drywall & Framing (Metal-Stud & Wood)
- Painting
- Flooring
- Abatement & Hazardous Material Demo
- Plumbing
- Mechanical Insulation
- Mechanical Piping
- Mechanical Firestopping
How It Works
Prequalification, start to finish.
We process prequals through TradeTapp (a BuildingConnected product). It's the same workflow most GCs use, and if you've already done a prequal with one, your work transfers cleanly.

What To Have Ready
Save yourself a round-trip.
The prequal moves faster when you have everything in hand before you start. Our document checklist is one page — download it, gather what's there, then start the online application.

The stuff subs ask us most.
Why do you prequalify?
To protect our clients and protect the trade partners already doing work with us. We're happy to work with new subs — we just need to confirm you can complete projects safely, are financially secure, and hold the same safety values we do. Once approved, you go on our bid list.
Do you require bonds?
If your scope value is over $75,000, yes — you need to be bondable. If you're shortlisted on a project at that value, we'll ask for a letter of bondability with your bonding company, your aggregate and single-project limits, a quick statement of bond history, and your current available capacity. If you've bid public works before, you've written this letter a hundred times.
What insurance do you require?
Proof of insurance during prequal. When a project is awarded, we'll ask for a project-specific certificate with additional insured, endorsements, and waiver of subrogation. Some projects carry larger limits or unique requirements — we'll always flag those during bidding so there are no surprises.
Where do Invitations to Bid come from?
BuildingConnected. Once you're prequalified, ITBs come through there with all plans, specs, addenda, and notifications. Questions during bidding — email estimating@athenaengineering.com or the assigned estimator directly. We can't accept a bid from you without a current, approved prequal on file.
Which diversity certifications do you accept?
We're a minority-and-woman-owned firm ourselves, so we love working with other diverse businesses. Accepted certifying bodies:
How do I start the prequalification?
Fill out the form below, or email prequalification@athenaengineering.com. We'll send a TradeTapp invite from BuildingConnected. If you run into trouble inside TradeTapp, BuildingConnected's Vendor Qualifications Help Center has the answers to most product questions.

One more thing.
If your trade isn't on our usual list and you still think there's a fit, send the prequal anyway. We pick up new scopes regularly, and a good partner is hard to find. We'd rather meet you now than miss you later.
