Careers
Hire on. Stick around.
Mechanical, building automation, general contracting — and the people who hold all three together without anything falling between. We hire for craft, judgment, and a long view. Most people stay.
Why Athena
Three things that make the work feel different here.
Self-performed work.
You're not subbing it out and managing the sub. Mechanical and controls happen in-house. Your hands are on the equipment that ends up in the building.
Cross-discipline by design.
Mechanical, BAS, and GC live under one roof. PMs see all three. Techs work across system types. Engineers don't get pigeonholed. (Most people pick a lane eventually — you get to choose which one.)
Family-owned. Forty years in.
Jannie and Richard started the company in 1984. Still family-owned. No outside investors, no PE buyer in the wings. The plan is to keep doing this for another forty years.

California Fair Chance Act
Athena Engineering will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the California Fair Chance Act. You do not need to disclose your criminal history or participate in a background check until a conditional job offer is made to you. After making a conditional offer and running a background check, if Athena Engineering is concerned about a conviction that is directly related to the job, you will be given the chance to explain the circumstances surrounding the conviction, provide mitigating evidence, or challenge the accuracy of the background report. Learn more at the California Civil Rights Department Fair Chance Act page.
Visa sponsorship
At this time, Athena Engineering is unable to provide visa sponsorship. All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
Pre-employment contingencies
Applicants who receive a conditional offer of employment may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, background check, and professional reference checks, in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of any required screening. Drug and alcohol screening is administered after a conditional offer is extended and is conducted by a third-party medical service provider.
Specific roles may have additional pre-employment requirements (motor vehicle record review, fit-for-duty evaluations, or trade-specific credential verification).
Athena Engineering does not discriminate against applicants or employees based on lawful off-duty conduct, including the lawful use of cannabis outside of work, consistent with California Government Code § 12954. Testing protocols are designed to assess current impairment, where permitted, and not the presence of non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites.
Nothing in this policy limits Athena Engineering’s ability to enforce drug- and alcohol-free workplace standards for safety-sensitive positions, or to comply with federal or state requirements applicable to certain positions or contracts — including the federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 (applicable to federally funded projects) and the California Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1990 (applicable to State of California public works projects). The full policy is set out in the Notice for Job Applicants in California (linked above) and in the Athena Engineering Employee Handbook provided to all hired employees.
To all recruitment agencies
Athena Engineering, Inc. does not accept unsolicited agency résumés. Please do not forward résumés to our careers alias or to employees of Athena Engineering. Internships
We hire interns. We also hire former interns.
Paid, project-based, mentored by a Project Manager or Project Engineer. Multi-disciplinary exposure across mechanical, BAS, and construction. Three to twelve months. The closest thing to a real career trial run we know how to offer.
From intern to Project Executive happens here more than you'd think.
