Lately, on Instagram
Toy drives, costume contests, and the office dogs.
We lost Mitch Lamons last week. There’s some irony in posting about him on Instagram, since Mitch lived in the present, never had much use for social media, and kept in touch by emailing everyone memes. He’d roll his eyes at this. We’re posting it anyway, because more people should know who he was.
Mitch came to us in 2004 as a truck driver and was stationed out at NASA almost right away. He worked his way up to Superintendent, and if you needed a job finished, you got Mitch on it. He drove in from Hesperia, usually farther than anyone else, and was still the first one on site. He never complained about the work, griped about pretty much everything else, and then did the job better than anyone. He was also hopeless with technology, and more than one person in our office spent time rescuing his computer while he yelled at Siri.
He retired in 2023, lasted about four months, and came back part-time with Fridays off for fishing and his garden. He earned his letterman jacket for his years of service and wore it with more pride than anyone else, and he made all of us proud to be here. Our crews, subs, and clients adored him. He was fair with everybody and kinder than he’d ever admit.
We’re grateful to his wife, Cheryl, and his family for calling so those of us who could get there had the chance to say goodbye. His spirit was in that room as strong as ever. Taking care of them is our job now.
We all love you Mitch, and will miss you. Rest easy.

@nationalsafetycouncil Safety Congress & Expo wrapped last week — three days of information overload, and our VP Athena Chiera loved every minute of it.
She`s this year`s recipient of @smacna RISE Committee Safety Sponsorship, and spent the trip immersed with 1,000+ exhibitors and specialists from every corner of the industry. Steps logged: a lot.
@milwaukeetool, a sponsor of the award, tossed in $500 toward tools of her own - no persuading required, since her toolbox was already all Milwaukee red.

35 years.
For context: Athena is 41. Which means Brian has been here for almost the entire ride — back when "the company" was a fraction of what it is now.
Make no mistake, you don`t get 35 years out of someone by accident. You get it with real work, people worth working beside, and a place worth coming back to every morning.
Brian would hate a big speech, so we`ll keep it simple: thank you. For the years, for the steadiness, and for sticking around long enough to literally become part of the foundation.
Here`s to 35, Brian.
