Los Angeles County’s Internal Services Department keeps the county running behind the scenes — purchasing, contracting, IT, energy programs, and the upkeep of more than 200 county facilities and 13 million square feet of property. When ISD’s own headquarters needed the coils replaced in its main air handler, the building couldn’t go offline to do it.
Athena replaced all six hot- and chilled-water coils inside the main air handler serving the building, ran new piping to tie them in, set new main chilled- and hot-water valves, and installed new condensate pans. Our in-house crews self-performed the work.
Six coils out and back in over three weekends — and staff came back Monday to a building that just worked.
The headquarters stayed open all week, so the job ran on weekends, double shifts, three weekends in a row. Each Sunday we restarted the unit so the HVAC was back up before staff walked in Monday morning. Staff came back to a building that just worked.
