The Walt Disney Studios, located in Burbank California, serves as the corporate headquarters for the Walt Disney Company. The studio lot is the home of many offices for the company’s different divisions, and it is still the home of the original animation studio building, which was completed in 1940. Some of the most beloved movies ever made were created here on this lot, including Bambi, Cinderella, and Peter Pan. This 51-acre lot also contains several sound stages along with other production facilities, which are used today to film many movies and different television series. Gate 3, which is located on Riverside Drive, serves as the primary entrance for most employees and members of various stage crews.
The Disney Riverside Gate 3 Remodel project was awarded to Athena Engineering in mid 2016. In a compressed schedule in the middle of the holidays, Athena Engineering and our team of subcontractors demolished and replaced 35,000 square feet of asphalt, removed the existing security booths and installed two new security booths on new concrete pads. The asphalt began immediately after entering gate 3 and continued towards the Zorro parking structure, also towards several of the seven sound stages located on the studio lot, and throughout the service gas station. Before replacing the asphalt we managed the underground trenching and installation of electrical conduit to provide power to the new security booths, while keeping traffic open 24 hours. We also managed the removal and replacement of three sections of concrete sidewalk and curb. After completing the scope, we provided striping on the new asphalt to provide new traffic lanes for the exiting and entering of Disney gate 3.
