Project Description

The Public Health Laboratory (PHL) is a biohazard laboratory that is commissioned to work on counter-terrorism research. The new 60,000 square foot location required a complete internal renovation to fit the required laboratories and office space.  The systems had to be redesigned and adapted to meet the CDC Biohazard Level 3 requirements immediately before the construction was supposed to begin. Athena Engineering, Inc., acting as the General Contractor and the Mechanical HVAC / DDC Controls contractor self-performed the following:

  • HVAC System and ductwork for the on-site Vivarium
  • Access control, door systems, and HVAC DDC Controls throughout the entire building
  • Bio-fume hood system
  • Exhaust system – chilled water infrastructure
  • Hot water infrastructure
  • HEPA Filter System
  • Active Pressurization
